Congrats on your award--I think it's wonderful! I too write for military children. My first title, 'The Worn-Out Backpack' is about a child coping with a parent's deployment. My next title (no release date yet) is called 'Memories of Me,' and tells the story of a child who keeps a journal for her Dad, so he can share in the events he's missed, after having been gone for so long. The stories are inspired by my daughter, who has gone through these experiences. My husband has been serving on active duty since 1986. I wish you all the best, and keep writing.

This is an excellent subject and a nice site. I was wondering if you would consider joining our writers network and swap links. I would like to list your work on our site. Kudos, for touching on a subject that I dont believe has been written with the child in mind to date. Best wishes and much continued success.

I haven't read your book yet, but soon will. I was intrigued by the subject and the website. Glad to see another New Bern author!
My cousin was wounded badly in Vietnam and neve fully recovered although much better than it was predicted. The bullet passed through his forehead and out the back of his head, leaving him surely to be a vegetative state or die. However, he walks, talks and farms as before, just a bit slower. We are fortunate to have him return to us in 1970, but many did not get that chance. They are still out there, maybe even alive and waiting to come home. Keep raising awareness and I wish you luck.

John,
Congratulations on the publication of your book. Your subject text, and ministerial mission touches the core of my heart and hits very close to home. My beloved brother served in the military during the Vietnam era. We thank the Lord for returning him to us safe and sound. However, as your writing states, many of our men never made it home. Thank you for sharing the story of their sacrifices with the world, keeping the memory of the MIA/ POW alive. These brave soldiers served and sacrificed above and beyond anything the civilian mind can imagine. My heart grieves for their families. Yet my soul rejoices for the ones who made it home alive. I look forward to buying your book, and reading the story in its entirety. May God continue to bless your minisrty.

John...

Let me say what a wonderful mission this is that you have embarked upon; ie. to share the plight of POW/MIA with not only children but us adults as well. It's an 'in-your-face' reminder of what those who served their country unto death went through. For those veterans who are still with us, we need to be aware of what their needs are today. The PVA is an organization to which I have contributed over several years.

What a lovely gesture it was for President Bush to pen you a letter of appreciation! That's simply awesome! Thanks for sharing it with us.

I truly hope that many people will purchase your book and consequently be led to offer support to our veterans. All the best...smile

Hello John and All!
I am the daughter of one of the 1500 still considerd MIA in Vietnam. I am your neighbor - I live in New Bern. Yes - those you care about are closer than you think. On behalf of the family of Lt. Col. James M. McGarvey, USMC, MIA, NVN April 17, 1967, THANK YOU for caring and for keeeping awareness alive. Even though I am the youngest child of a warfighter MIA from Vietnam, now 46 years old, I myself cannot answer the question of "What is an MIA/POW." John, thank you for trying to help the world to understand the mystery my family has tried to solve, unsuccessfully, for many, many years. I admit, I have not read your book...YET...but I am sure that those, like me, you talked with during your research also expressed their gratitude for your efforts. God Bless you! You, too, will never be forgotten.
